7th/8th Grade AP Testing Letter

Dear Parent or Guardian:

Jefferson County Public Schools are slated to offer the CogAT or Cognitive Abilities Test in October.  The CogAT is used as a part of the Advanced Placement or Gifted & Talented Program. If your child is already identified as Gifted & Talented and is currently participating in the Advanced Placement Program, they have the option of re-testing for a higher score. If a higher score is not obtained, the new test score will not affect the student’s Advance Program status.
If you are interested in your child being tested for possible placement in the Advanced Program for the next school year, please use this form to indicate your interest and to give KMS permission to take the AP screening test (CogAT).  The screening test will be administered during October 4th for 8th grade and October 11th for the 7th grade.   If this is something you would like to see your 7th or 8th grade child participate in, please sign and return the permission slip on the back.

If you would like to know more about this screening test, you can visit:

If you wish to know more about JCPS Advanced Placement Program, you can visit:

The Advance Program is a program for academically talented students in grades four through twelve.  The program is available in designated centers throughout the district.  The results of the screening test will be sent to you during the months of February – March 2018.  Parents/Guardians will have the option of accepting placement for the upcoming school year, at that time.

Thank you,
