8th Grade Graduation Information for 2021

Congratulations! Our time is almost here to celebrate the work our 8th grade students have made toward their big next step to high school.  In honor of that, and thanks to being back in the building, we are going to be celebrating with a promotion ceremony.  Here are the basics, with a specific program to come.

  • We will have a total of 5 ceremonies: AA for Honey and Ursa, BB for Honey and Ursa, and a Virtual Grizzly one
    • AA groups Tuesday, May 25th – 8:30 AM Honey, 10:00 AM Ursa
    • Virtual Grizzly 1:20 PM on Wednesday, May 26th
    • BB groups Thursday, May 27th – 8:30 AM Honey, 10:00 AM Ursa
  • Due to CDC, KDE, and District restrictions, we will be performing the ceremony live with students in the gym by team, but without an audience other than their team members.
  • Attendees will be masked and socially distancing, with cleaning performed between ceremonies as precautions to protect student health
  • We will be live-streaming the ceremonies for families and loved ones to witness, and will have the stream saved on YouTube to allow people who cannot watch live to celebrate by viewing it later

We cannot wait to celebrate this promotion with your student! Please contact Mr. Kumm, 8th-grade Assistant Principal, should you have any questions.

Restructuring of Teams 2020-2021

Please read the letter below discussing team restructuring for the year.

September 14, 2020

Dear Kammerer Families,

The first twelve days of school have been amazing during Kammerer Middle School’s NTI 2.0 roll out and I could not be more proud to be the Principal of this school community.  Thank you for preparing your young SCHOLARS for middle school, and continuing to support them at home each day. My staff of CHAMPION teachers ensured that we had a smooth start to the school year, in fact, I believe we will still be on track to make it our best school year ever!

At Kammerer, we are going to make a few shifts in our teaching teams as our enrollment numbers have exceeded projections. We are excited to announce we have created a third 8th grade teaching team.  This adjustment will shift some students to our new URSA team. This restructuring will not impact the Band, Orchestra or Chorus classes, nor will it impact Advanced Placements or course offerings. In fact, it will allow us to serve our students and provide more individualized opportunities.  There will be additional communication to families directly impacted by the change.

In addition to 8th grade, 6th grade will shift from a total of 12 teachers to a total of 10. In 6th grade we will have (2) four person teaching teams and (1) two person teaching team. This shift will also allow for appropriate class sizes and will not impact course offerings. Follow up will come from grade level administration and teachers who will welcome your child.

As educators, we strive to ensure that all of our Scholar’s will be prepared for the next grade level, and in doing so, we have aligned all grade level curriculum and content. Therefore, whatever team assignment your child may have, they will receive the same curriculum and content.

We value our partnership with you and appreciate your dedication to your child’s success! We anticipate all changes to be in place and in effect by September 21, 2020.  Please don’thesitate to reach out to myself, or your child’s grade level Assistant Principal or Counselor.

Sincerely,

D. Armour

NTI 2.0 Information

 August 25, 2020

Dear Kammerer Families:

It was great to reconnect with our students on the first day of the 2020-2021 school year through Non-Traditional Instruction, or NTI 2.0.  We are grateful to our families and staff for being understanding, patient and dedicated as we continue virtual learning.  As we start the school year, we do want to make you aware of isolated incidents that occurred across some middle and high schools.

It is important to JCPS to be able to provide live instruction for students during NTI 2.0 that allows for discussion and a feeling of a traditional classroom environment.  It has come to our attention that some students entered online classrooms they were not assigned to and disrupted live instruction.  As a reminder, students are not to share their Google Meet class code with other students.

An investigation is underway and district leaders are working to identify the students involved. The behavior that took place today was inappropriate and will not be tolerated.  Families are encouraged to discuss appropriate online behavior with their students.

Communication is a key part of NTI 2.0 and we value your trust.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call

 Sincerely,

D. Armour
